Off and away.

July 24.

July 24

Pleasant.  Went to church.  Mr. Humphrey preached from John 6th 27th and Acts 17th 30th.  Urinna stopped at the Risings as we came home, and her father were going down to the five o’clock meeting in Loomis St.  I enjoyed her visit ever so much only it wasn’t half long enough.  Silas came down after supper and I went off with him after birch.  We sat on the ground on the side of the mountain a long time–till Uncle Fenton came along and said the cows had gone to Loomis Street.  None of us went to meeting this eve.  It looked some showery.

Pittsfield Sun. Week of July 21. Precipice of War.
