July 20.
Very warm. Mr. Smith carried Mary and Lottie to the depot this morning first as I was going to school. I was sorry to have them go but “such is life” and Lottie promised to write me. I went down to Mr. Bacon’s after school and Witt said he would take Mrs. B. and I up to Mr. Thomas Cowles to the sociable this eve but we did not get started till late and they had all gone before we got there, so we kept on to Westfield and had some soda and sugar hearts then came home. I staid to Mrs. Bacon’s all night. She is quite jolly when she is waked up.
