July 9.
Pleasant. I washed this forenoon and in the afternoon Ellen, Preston and I went over to the southlane. We called on Grandmother and helped Grandpa get in a load of hay. I got onto the load and topped the load up and Ellen and Preston were the two colts to draw it. Then we called to Uncle David and then went to Wm’s to tea and then to Uncle Chapman’s. Had a splendid time all around, Preston got some candy at the store to last over Sunday. Ellen gave me quite a setting out last night because we got so separated the 4th of July. She thought it was a contrived plan and even called George + Frank scamps. I tried to apologize to her but she wouldn’t accept it.
